Historical images

Captured between 1920 and 1939, these black-and-white images serve as a captivating portal to the past.

Upon initial inspection, these images reveal the bygone days of a seemingly carefree existence. However, a closer look evokes a spectrum of emotions, especially considering the storm brewing on the horizon. The photos call attention to the resilience of these individuals who lived through the impending nightmare of the Second World War. Did they have an inkling of the challenges that lay ahead?

Our process

Our postproduction process, featuring meticulous colorization, breathes life into these snapshots from history.

The infusion of color bridges the temporal gap, allowing us to envision the world as it once was. The process involved immersing ourselves in the details - the hues of sunlight, the time of day, the rich palette of colors surrounding each subject, and even the textures of clothing, uniforms, skin, and the environment.

The result

The result is a collection of images that transcends the limitations of black and white, offering a newfound vibrancy and palpability.

The forest workers, their faces etched with the toil of a different time, come alive with the infusion of color. This restoration project seeks to eliminate the disconnection that black-and-white tones often impose on our understanding of historical moments.

As we explored the depths of these photographs, a wave of both positivity and sadness washed over us, accompanied by a profound tenderness for the people captured within them and a glimmer of hope for normalcy amidst the backdrop of difficult times. Knowing the fate that awaited these individuals in the years to come added a layer of depth to the experience. The Forest Project emerged as one of the most emotionally charged endeavors we have undertaken in our extensive history of projects.

We take pride in presenting this labor of love - a project that not only resurrects the past but also honors the enduring spirit of those who lived through challenging times. The pleasure and insight we received from this endeavor will undoubtedly linger with us for years to come.

Join us on this extraordinary journey as we unveil a vibrant tapestry of history, one carefully restored image at a time.
